Mood Board - Creation Process
Hi peeps
Mood Board Creation Process
I have had a few questions lately about mood boards and what they are so here is a brief description, courtesy from Wikipedia.
"A mood board is a type of visual presentation or 'collage' consisting of images, text, and samples of objects in a composition. It can be based on a set topic or can be any material chosen at random. A mood board can be used to convey a general idea or feeling about a particular topic. They may be physical or digital, and can be effective presentation tools"
So in a scrapbooking sense, you use the colours and images in the Mood Board to provide you with the inspiration to kickstart the creative process.
For instance, you could focus on the blossoms in one of the images from the Mood Board below, by creating a Spring or garden-themed card or scrapbook layout. Or you could focus on the party image and create a scrapbooking layout featuring a party or baby shower. These particular images are very much Valentine-type images so of course with Valentine's Day next week, you could create a Valentine's Day card or layout.
Or you could focus on the colours in the images which then makes the possibilities endless. It's really very much open to your own interpretation.
I create all my mood boards in (www.canva.com). Previously, I also created a sketch and a downloadable Printable to go along with the Mood Board. However this year (2024) I am only creating the Mood Board.
So basically I start off with a theme in mind or one image and just build on that until I am happy with the images and colours I have on the mood board. CANVA highlights the colours from the images in the colour palette so it actually makes it easy to create the colour palette on the side of the board.
Sometimes the mood board is created quickly and other times it takes a little longer. It depends and I’m a bit of a perfectionist so I always want the complete set to be perfect.
Once the Mood Board is complete and if I do want to create a sketch and printable, I'll start on these using the Mood Board as inspiration. The sketch is probably the one file that does take a little longer, however once done I pull the images from the sketch and make sure they’re included in the Printable.
I may enlarge them of course and then sometimes I look for other complimentary images. All in all, it takes me a few hours to create the set.
However, I believe the creation and the process are just another way for me to express my creativity and I get much enjoyment out of the process itself
Here is a sample of a Mood Board Set which was February 2021. Visit the Mood Board page.
Til next time
