Craft Tutorial - Simple Mini Project Idea - Shabby Butterfly Tag

Wow!! What a fantastic turnout at our July Creative Day. So many joined us which was wonderful.  We had a fantastic bunch of ladies.

This month make n take was a Shabby Butterfly Tag. So easy to make and most of us completed it in about 20 mins. It's a great beginner's project. Simple, Fun and Easy!

You only need a few basic items which most of us will already have in our craft supplies. It took me a while to figure out what to make for this make n ' take. My creative juices were not flowing freely! Sometimes I tend to create smaller fiddly projects without even realising it. With this one, I just start to create and followed my creative mind, to see where it would take me.

All you need is a tag base, pretty papers, texture paste, stencil, and a fussy-cut butterfly, The butterfly can be cut from patterned paper, (like we did) or die cut a butterfly from some scrap paper. It's a great little tag to add to a special gift or as a decoration in an album or on a scrapbooking layout.

The Tag Base

  1. Cut white cardstock to measure 15 x 5 cm.

  2. Trim the top of the corners to create the tag shape.

  3. Paste a strip of patterned paper measuring 2.5cm in height at the bottom of the tag.

  4. Tear a strip of vintage book paper and paste it along the right-hand side from where the corner of the tag starts down to the paper strip.

  5. Layer with some washi across the top of the paper and book paper where it joins.

  6. Adhere music sheet paper on the left-hand side and a smaller piece across the top of the tag.

Mixed Media

  1. Grab some texture paste and a delicately patterned stencil. and layer some of the paste onto the tag in small sections. It adds a nice textured effect.

  2. Ink the edge of the larger stamped sentiment and adhere to the bottom of the tag.

  3. Ink the edge of the miniature stamped sentiment and adhere to the top area of the tag.

Embellishments

  1. Layer some kid's mohair curls, sprayed muslin, leaves, seed stem, and tiny blossoms into the middle of the tag. It may take a little patience to get them placed right. Once you're happy with the cluster, glue it down.

  2. Ink the edge of the butterfly and adhere this down on top of the cluster.

  3. Punch a hole in the tag and thread with some dyed seam binding.
