Scrapbook Layout 12x12 Sunny Days

This one turned out so sweet—and honestly, I didn’t really have a plan going in.

I just felt like playing with some leftover papers and a few older die cuts I had tucked away. I had this soft, whimsical vibe in my head and decided to just run with it.

I found some old paper from My Mind’s Eye—I think it was called Whirly Bird (or something like that)—and it had these really cute little whimsical trees on it. So of course… out came the scissors ✂️ I fussy cut them and used them to kind of frame the photo.

Then I went digging through my stash (as we do 😂) and found an old gate die cut, which felt perfect for that dreamy garden feel. And that textured piece in the top right? That was just an old bit of cardstock I’d previously applied some pink texture paste through a stencil—and I thought, why not use it?

It’s one of those layouts that just came together by pulling bits from here and there… and I think that’s what makes it feel a little bit special 💛

Layout Design:

Papers and Cardstock:  I ent with a whit cardstock base and used older papers with pinks, greens, creams and whites. The pink and white tie in with the warmth of the photos.

Photo: The photo is anchored slightly to the left and framed with soft layers, which immediately draws your eye in. The gentle matting helps it stand out without feeling heavy.

Title:  Placing the title across the top gives the layout a clear starting point and helps frame the layout. The title was created digitally in CANVA and printed.

Journalling Spots: I typed my journalling and printed it out, cut the strips and adhered it down. I added the location and date to the bottom right, so it broke up the journalling and adds a little more interest.

Techniques Used:

Layered background: Instead of one flat background, I created sections using different patterned papers—florals, textures, and subtle prints.

Fussy Cutting Papers: I found some older papers from My Mind’s Eye in my stash and decided to fussy cut a few of the elements out. I used them to softly frame around the photos and help draw your eye into the centre of the layout. I love doing this with older papers because it gives them a whole new life instead of leaving them sitting forgotten in the stash 😄

Clustered embellishments: The floral and leafy clusters (especially around the top right and bottom areas) create visual “moments.” These clusters act like little focal points that balance the page and frame the photo.

Use of a “grounding” border: That clear washi strip along the bottom with the tiny floral pattern acts like a base or “ground,” which visually anchors all the embellishments sitting above it. That was a last-minute addition, as I felt like something was missing at the bottom.

Stamping: If you look very close, you can see that I have used black Ink and a script stamp and randomly stamped up at the top of the layout on the green and just under the photo on the pink.  I think it adds to the whimsy feel of the layout.

The sketch is waiting inside the community?

One thing I really love about scrapbooking is how one layout idea can inspire so many different creative directions.  So I thought it would be fun to turn this type of post into a regular weekly creative series — a place where we can share layouts, sketches, ideas, tips, and inspiration together throughout the week.

Every week, over on the Scrap of Your Life Facebook Page  I share a scrapbook layout along with a little peek into the creative process behind it. Then inside the Creative Craft Community , I’ll post the sketch version so everyone can create their own take on the design too.

Here on the blog, I’ll also chat a little more about the techniques, layering ideas, paper choices, leftover stash pieces, and the little details that helped bring the layout together.

If you’d love the sketch version and want to join in with the creative conversations, come join us so you can save the sketch and create this layout too.

This is how it works:

✨ Saturday - I share the finished layout on the Scrap of Your Life Facebook Page
✨ Tuesday - Blog post goes live with techniques, thoughts, tips, products used, design ideas etc
✨ Thursday -  I share the sketch exclusively inside the Facebook Creative Craft Community
✨ Friday - We'll discuss the layout and ideas ommunity discussion post:
