Robertson NSW Day Trip 15 May 2024.
We decided to head out for the day and hubby chose the destination as a surprise, so I had no idea where we were going!
True to form, my husband, who is famous for his love of scenic shortcuts, opted to take us through the charming backroads. We head down the Hume Highway to Mittagong and then turned onto the Old South Road to Kangaloon which took us onto Robertson. His routes, though unconventional, are always filled with stunning landscapes and hidden gems. However, sometimes they backfire and we end up lost. Today was not one of those days!
The drive took us along some beautiful rolling hills, green pastureland, and recent rains had brought life to numerous creeks. We made several stops along the way to take some quick photos and of course, I love to document the trip.
Once we arrived in Robertson, we spent the day exploring the charming town, visiting the Big Potato, This giant spud was built in 1977 so it's been there in Robertson for a few years now. You can actually walk inside and on the inside it has been painted to look like mashed potato.
Note: If you visit the Emporium, make sure to do at least two laps—because who wants to risk missing out on that perfect, life-changing trinket hiding in plain sight?
There is also a Robertson Truffle farm Robertson Truffle farm, which runs Truffle Hunt tours during June and August. (If anyone is interested in joining in on a tour, let me know)..
We purchased a few pies from the famous Robertson's pie shop to take home and also had a coffee and cake which was pretty delicious!
Also, did you know that the movie Babe was filled in Robertson! The farm that was used in the filming was a set and was torn down afterward, but I need to fact-check this a little more.So all in all the trip was a lovely little surprise and a fantastic day out. So if you're ever wondering what to do on a free day, then it's a perfect short-day trip. Our return journey took us back via Macquarie Pass through Albion Park and then back via Mittagong,
It's definitely going to be one of my go-to shops for pillaging interesting vintage books. You never know what buried treasure you'll unearth - it's like being a bookish pirate, but without the eye patch!
Til next time
Julie
