Creative Day Make n Take - Country Girl Tag Tutorial
This beautiful tag was one of our special projects at our March Creative Day, created in celebration of International Women’s Day. Using soft, flowing colour, layered textures, and delicate embellishments, we brought together a sweet country-style design featuring meaningful quotes that honour and uplift women. It was such a lovely, relaxed project—full of creativity, connection, and a little reminder of just how powerful and inspiring women can be 💕

Step 1: Prepare your base
Start with your blank tag and apply a thin, even coat of clear gesso over the entire surface.
This helps the powders move beautifully across the page rather than soaking straight in.
Allow to dry completely (or speed things up with a heat tool).
Step 2: Add colour magic
Lightly sprinkle your Nuvo Shimmer Powders onto the tag—just a little goes a long way!
We used:
- Blue Blitz
- Yellow
- Violet Brocade
- Green Parade
Once sprinkled, gently spritz with water and watch the colours come to life and blend together.
Tilt your tag if you’d like the colours to run and mix naturally.
Let this dry completely before moving on.
Step 3: Create soft texture
Using a stencil, apply a small amount of texture paste here and there across your tag.
Keep it light and random—you just want hints of dimension, not full coverage.
Dry with heat gun.
Step 4: Prepare your embellishments
While your tag is drying, begin fussy cutting:
- The country girl
- Flowers
- Your chosen sentiment from the printable
Once cut, lightly ink around the edges of each piece to soften the white edges and add depth.
Step 5: Build your layers
Start layering your tag:
- Adhere mesh first to create a soft, textured base
- Position your country girl as the focal point
Step 6: Add your sentiment
I crated the signpost using a Bee Arty Signpost Die and white cardstock. Use a fine brown liner to create the timber look. Choose your favourite quote from the printable and adhere each word to the signposts.
I deliberately made the sentiments three words in length so they would fit on the signs.
Tuck it slightly into your cluster so it feels part of the design rather than sitting on top.
Step 7: Embellishments
Add a few gems or embellishments for a little sparkle and interest.
You can also add extra ink around the edges of the tag if you’d like a more defined, finished look.
